Class of 1990 Fri, 02 Jun 2006 02:20:15

So June 1st was the official opening of Parliament Session for 2006 and as per regular, the kids were all out and so were the handsome, beautiful tutors.

We had to wait for the last platoon to see our dear Mrs Tamalisi Koloti Latapu, but she was all smiles as is usual for our girls.I tried real hard to see if I could spot Mrs Seini Foliaki I'm waiting to have a baby Manu, but unfortunately the may have wheel-chaired her away before I got on the scene.

Of course we cannot forget our beautiful girls of Queen Salote College and their marching orders. This year seems to be a departure from the long route of yesteryear, and O4 here seems to remember some different things from what's on today's menu.

The girls found the fastest way home and ran for it. No more routing through downtown to scamper back home past ako-nofoma'u. We though the band had more songs to play then last years, and at least they have a band to play. We had to do with the smiling and the Lef"T" Lef"T" Lef"T" Righ"T" Lef"T" if you know what I mean ?

The rhythm section seems a little thin these days, I hope it's not the rich food their eating these days, but the girls seem to still have the bod', unlike some of our year that seem to be losing the battle and the war.

What generosity !!! Congrats gals.

The news broadcasts for the past couple of days mentioned that the Queen Salote College festivities recorded in our Photo Gallery collected over 1/2 a million pa'anga. Over TOP$300,000 was collected by for the ex-students' association and a new departure was the especial concern from students, alumni and friends to provide needed funding for the current school needs. According to the principal, over TOP$200,000 was collected for the school's recurring needs.

The more you get to know this class, the more you learn that there is definitely some deficit in the hearing department for the majority of the members of the class.

Here I am with the kids in the lounge while the girls are having their meeting outside, unfortunately it's like being in a night-club, no one has any idea what the television is saying because the noise from the girls is soooo loud.

Looks like something special's about to happen cause that sure looks like a little tunu under that foila.

We tripped over to the school last night to greet and farewell the Ex-Students from Australia and we were surprised at the special treat they had offered to the boarding students.

You can barely see it, but there it is, the special treat for the night. Kale Laise.

The Special Guest of Honour to the Aloha Night was the Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho, Chair of the Working Committee.

It goes without mention that the whole Ex-Student body were extremely honoured and overwhelmed with Joy that the Princess made herself available for the evening, as well as other work, and to enjoy the whole process, long and winded though parts may have been.

Today was the final day for cleaning up, touching up, and getting that key back to the Principal. Petani was officially handed back to the school and weary bodies are recovering tonight from the mad rush work of the past month as well as the crazy runs of the past week to make sure everything was better than good enough.

We had not hoped for an official opening of the work, and had always planned on just handing the keys to the Principal to do with the work as she so chooses.

Through an extremely fortunate twist of fate, your Class of 1990 were honoured to have the Chair of the Queen Salote Ex-Student's Working Committee, Princess Nanasipau'u Tuku'aho, officially recieve the key to re-open Petani for use by teh school.

One good outcome, as always, of the current Falekai conclusion timeline, is that we need HELP!!! Yes, we need your cash to finish the house, and pay off the bills, but even before then we need more immediate help.

There are a number of different ways to celebrate a birthday party, and Tonga's birthday parties tend to be quite unique, even if you are from the land of flash memories.

In keeping with the traditions of the college, Queen Salote College have prepared a number of activities to celebrate the school's 80th Anniversary. One of those big-item activities, is the school's "Ma'ulu'ulu."

Being that I didn't go to the school, you'll have to check with the ex-students what their "Ma'ulu'ulu" Ta'anga is all about, but it is a beauty to see all these young women/girls perform the sitting/hand-dance of Tonga called the Ma'ulu'ulu.

Were it only that Merlin and Mickey were around to wave the wand and have all these dishes washed and stacked away.

Saturday morning, and thankfully this morning started later than previous dark night runs. The major task for the day?

Washing those dishes that seem to have collected at Petani over the past quarter century.

A hand of thanks to the dad's who double-dutied with the kids for 'another-saturday.' Only one more ? Or, maybe this is getting to bee too much fun? I don't think so.

Tamalisi and Paea-he-Lotu ganged up in one sink against their collection.

As New Zealand as ...

We had a meeting this afternoon after work to review the work that had been done, and to thank everyone for participating as well as highlight a few more items that need to be polished up before we can return the keys to the rightful owners.

As forewarned elsewhere, we opened the packages from New Zealand and were pleasantly surprised by the quantity of the materials for the bathroom and bedroom sent from our sisters in New Zealand.

We were all in a good mood, except we heard that the class of 2003 is copying our 'uniform' for the ex-student events so that was a little 'disappointing?' Someone needs to teach Kids these days about some level of originality (as if our uniform is designer chic, ha ha ha) But you'll all see it in due time. If we can get Sesilina into her's we'll put a photo up, before its time.
